4th Congressional District Democratic
Membership Meeting
September 08, 2007
Carpenters Hall, Pasco, WA.
Chairman Dany Adolf called the meeting to order at 10:22am.
Flag Salute was led by George Fearing.
Secretary Higley distributed a copy of the June 9, 2007 meeting minutes. After review by those in attendance, due to not having a quorum in attendance the minutes were accepted as distributed by those in attendance.
Tom Zeilman gave a treasurer's report that showed that we have a balance of $2,127.67 in our WaMu checking account. The report was accepted by the group.
Tom gave a report on the requirements of the Federal Election Committee (FEC). Tom said that we are registered with the IRS as a 527 Organization but we are not required to register with the FEC because we do not give any money directly to any candidates. As a 527 Organization we can purchase issue ads.
Tom had one correction. He explained at the meeting that the 4th CD is not currently registered with the FEC because we have never given more than $1,000.00 directly to any candidate for federal office in an election cycle. We actually did give that exact amount to Richard Wright's campaign last September.
There was a general discussion on how we achieve the ability of a Congressional District Organization having a say in the running of the State Party.
Ted reported that two other Congressional Districts have formed an Organization similar to ours. As more Districts do this we will have more support in achieving this goal.
Also we discussed what our role in Congressional candidate?s campaigns should be.
It was brought to our attention from one of the attendees that Eric Horeis, Eastern Washington Field Representative needs to purchase some PowerPoint presentation equipment. It was agreed to place a call to the Executive Board members of the 4th CD to see if they would be willing to approve a donation of $100.00 toward this purchase.
Ken Kaylor won the 50-50 drawing.
Chairman Dany Adolf notified everyone that he is stepping down at the December quarterly meeting of the 4th Congressional District because of other time commitments.
Secretary, Ted Higley also notified everyone that he is stepping down as Secretary of the 4th CD and also as an Executive Board Member of the State Democrat Party from the 4th Congressional District as he and his wife are relocating to Arizona the first week in November. Ted will relinquish his position at the end of the State Quarterly meeting in Wenatchee, September 29th, 2007. A new member will be elected at this meeting. Ted is suggesting that any and all who are interested in the position of State Party Executive Board Member should attend the Executive Board meeting of the State Party on Friday, September 28th as a guest to see how the Board operates.
There being no more items to discuss the meeting adjourned at 11:15am.
