Greetings:

On Wednesday, March 19th, the fifth anniversary of the U.S. invasion of Iraq, two vigils for peace/war protests were held in Wenatchee. Pictures from the vigils are now on the web, here:

http://www.ncwpeace.org/fifthanniversaryvigil.html

There is one page of pictures of the lunchtime vigil, and one page of pictures of the evening vigil.

To those who participated, thanks! To those who were unable to participate, we have a vigil for peace every Wednesday at the corner of Chelan and Orondo in Wenatchee, from 5:15 to 6:15 PM. There are additional vigils in Chelan, Tonasket, and Twisp - see our website for details. We hope to see you there soon!

Chelan County Democrats 2008 Caucuses Drew Record Crowds

The caucuses were held on Saturday, February 9th in seven locations throughout Chelan County. A total of 1532 people attended: 468 at Wenatchee High School, 393 Foothills Middle School, 122 Cashmere, 178 Chelan, 32 Entiat, 323 Leavenworth and 16 Stehekin.

This was the first time people in Stehekin had an opportunity to caucus in their own community and it was greatly appreciated. Four years ago, there was just one site in Chelan County with less than 400 attendees.

178 (68.73%) Delegates were elected for Senator Obama, 68 Delegates (26.25%) for Senator Clinton and 1 (0.39%) undecided.

Some people had difficulty finding out which precinct they live, but for the most part people found their precinct and site and participated without any problem. An avalanche in the upper Entiat valley kept some people from arriving at their site.

The final results were turned into the State Democrats Office by 5:30 pm which Connie Swett, Caucus Jurisdiction Coordinator, said was due to the hard work and efficiency of the Precinct Committee Officers and the Caucus Area Coordinators. Upon hearing the results, Erik Horeis, Eastern Washington Democrat Field Director, said Chelan County Democrats are rock stars!

By Susan Butruille in our Precinct Email:

During a recent visit to Washington, DC, I visited with an aide to Senator Patty Murray. The main message I came away with was that our elected representatives need to hear from us! When I was there, the office was inundated with calls from people who listen to Rush Limbaugh and don?t want "amnesty" for "illegals." That?s all they know. Murray's office wasn't hearing from the people who know something about the issue from reputable sources. Probably the least effective way to reach Congress is to send a letter, which must be inspected and can take up to two weeks to deliver. Call or go to her or his website and send an email opinion under the different listed categories. But do it! As I write this, the Farm Bill is up for a vote in the House. I personally favor the Fairness in Farm and Food Policy Amendment and not the bill that came out of committee. We must end subsidies for wealthy corporate landowners and help the farmers on the ground. As you know, there are countless issues that need attention!

Avoid Right-Wing Radio

People can stream progressive talk radio 24 hours a day at AM 620 KPOJ Portland and AM 1090 KPTK Seattle and hear the truth rather than the Republican Party spin on our local right wing radio. Perhaps this will generate some discussion and interest among local progressives.

****************

Just a heads up that tomorrow on KPQ at 560 on the AM dial based out of Wenatchee I'll be speaking on the subject of "What's a delegate able to do?" from 3:10pm - roughly 3:40pm.

The show is "The Other Side of The Coin" with Scott Brundage and is the only Democratic oriented talk show on the station.

If you have the time and interest you might try to tune in.
